So the GOP is patting itself on the back for winning a Governors race in Virginia? They're *supposed* to win in Virginia. NJ was a good win for them, but look at the race Corzine ran. It was 100% based on job creation and 0% social issues. Incumbents in a bad economy are always fighting uphill, and Corzine capitalized on that perfectly. In the other high profile race (NY 23) the GOP played to its base, spent millions of dollars on, then abandoned their candidate because she wasn't ideologically pure enough, and ended up with a Democrat holding that seat for the first time in *100 years*. If Obama and the Dems back off of their agenda, they are cowards and they're going to lose their own base.
I think the more surprising thing is that a drive-by shooting happened in Appleton, Wisconsin...

The earth is a dynamic system, there is no "normal" amount of CO2. The CO2 humans are releasing today was sequestered long ago by plants.One could argue that current carbon emissions are simply geo-engineering the earth to normal, pre-Carboniferous CO2 levels. It was, of course, during the Carboniferous period that plants caused global cooling by selfishly overusing the natural resource CO2. Over the past 600,000,000 years, it is only in the current period and the late Carboniferous where global CO2 levels have been under 400 ppm. |
