As a black man, I have to say that I could care less about whether the university of MD, was built from slave labor for other than purely mundane, factual, non-shockingly historical reasons. I only care about what it is now and what kind of cool majors I can get at the U of Md which is a great school. I graduated in the university of Md and I hope to go back and get more degrees. Yes my ancestors were slaves in this country, so what. I can't be angry at dead people, no matter how hard I try I just don't have any feelings about them. I like history and observe it from a holistic standpoint. I am glad that my ancestors were forcibly brought here to the united states because otherwise where would I be today? Would I even exist? I don't think any sort of reparations is really necessary or due should anyone actually suggest it. Inequality exists for many groups in the U.S. and I care about that, but skeletons in coffins just don't make me angry if you know what I mean.

“@GongdringYou have no problem with the requirement to have car insurance to drive, right? Because it protects us against loss do to uninsured motorist. Well eventually everyone needs medical attention. If you go to the hospital without insurance and skip out on the bill, the cost of MY care goes up. So in essence this requirement will help drive costs down. Sure, with car insurance you can just not drive. But with medical, you WILL get sick or injured and you WILL go to the hospital. We either tax the willingly uninsured to off set the costs of them using the facilities or we can deny access to the facilities, which would you prefer?

Yeah, way to understate something. China's per capita is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH lower than the USA's. It's not even comparable. Their total pollution is higher simply because they have much more people, so that is a completely unfair comparison. There is much more room for improvement from the USA. Not to mention that a lot of the pollution in China is a result of American MNC pressure for them to keep costs down by breaking environmental laws.?
